Eurostat Candle Statistics for the years 2012 to 2018

Preliminary note:
The following values of goods are not the values actually realized when sold to the end-consumers but the values when sold to the wholesale.

Compared to the already strong previous year, the candle consumption decreased significantly to approx. 739.000 tons in 2018 (-6,6 %, -52.200 tons) due to the extremely late start of the winter. The value of the consumed candles decreased by 4,2 % (-79 million EUR) in the same period. This means that each citizen in the European Union consumed an average of 1,44 kg of candles (-6,8 %) in 2018, corresponding to a wholesale price of 3,54 EUR (-4,4 %).

The European candle manufacturers suffered a decrease of their production by 6,9 % or 50.000 tons respectively.

When it comes to the export, the year 2018 showed a decrease of 1,8 % (-1.100 tons) compared to the previous year.

The  imports decreased by 2,5 % or 3.200 tons in the same period.

The percentage of domestically produced candles in the total consumption continues to remain at a pleasingly high level. In addition to the better price, consumers can rely on the premium base materials and the superb performance of European products.
