EU decides to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese candles

European candle manufacturers and their suppliers have suffered massively from illegally dumped candle imports from China. Yesterday marked an important milestone to protect the entire industry and thousands of jobs. The European Commission decided to impose anti-dumping duties on all candle imports from China.

One of ECMA´s key objectives is to protect its members from unfair competition. We had started putting together evidence almost two years ago already and lodged an official complaint through some of our members in October last year. The European Commission initiated an investigation on 19 December 2024 during which they found clear evidence of dumping and injury. This has now resulted in high provisional duties that are going to apply on all candle imports as of mid-August. Definitive duties are expected by mid-February 2026 and will remain in place for 5 years. More details including the exact duty rates can be found in the European Commission´s pre-disclosure and on their case website.

We would like to thank our members for the incredible amount of time and efforts they have put into this case, our legal team at the Brussels office of Nishimura & Asahi for their expertise and hard work, and the European Commission´s Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security for their thorough investigation.
