Candle consumption decreased significantly to approx. 756.000 tons in 2023 (-13,4 %, -117.000 tons). The value of the consumed candles decreased by 24,5 % (-615 million EUR) in the same period. Each citizen of the European Union consumed an average of 1,69 kg of candles (-13,8 %) in 2023, corresponding to a wholesale price of 4,22 EUR (-24,8 %).
The domestic production decreased by 13,8 % or 112.000 tons to a total of 704.000 tons. Approx. 88.000 tons were exported which is a decrease of 22,2 % or 25.200 tons compared to the previous year. The imports decreased to approx. 140.800 tons (-17,5 %, -29.800 tons).
