Candle consumption increased slightly to approx. 860.000 tons in 2022 (+1,1 %, +8.900 tons). The value of the consumed candles increased by 33 % (+617 million EUR) in the same period. Each citizen of the European Union consumed an average of 1,93 kg of candles (+1,18 %) in 2022, corresponding to a wholesale price of 5,56 EUR (+33 %).
The domestic production decreased by 6,8 % or 59.000 tons to a total of 803.000 tons. Approx. 114.000 tons were exported which is a decrease of 18,6 % or 25.900 tons compared to the previous year. The imports increased strongly to approx. 170.500 tons (+32,7 %, +42.000 tons).
