Eurostat Candle Statistics for the years 2015 to 2021

Preliminary note:
The following values of goods are not the values actually realized when sold to the end-consumers, but the values when sold to the wholesale.

Candle consumption increased significantly to approx. 807.000 tons in 2021 (+12,8 %, +91.300 tons). The value of the consumed candles increased by 19,4 % (+297 million EUR) in the same period. Each citizen of the European Union consumed an average of 1,80 kg of candles (+12,8 %) in 2021, corresponding to a wholesale price of 4,10 EUR (+19,4 %).

The European candle manufacturers managed to increase domestic production by 10,7 % or 79.800 tons to a total of almost 820.000 tons, despite the challenges of the pandemic and supply chain disruptions. Approx. 140.000 tons were exported which is an increase of 12,7 % or 15.700 tons compared to the previous year. The imports increased strongly to approx. 128.400 tons (+28,2 %, +28.200 tons).

The percentage of domestically produced candles in total consumption continues to remain at a pleasingly high level though. In addition to the more attractive price, consumers can rely on the premium base materials and the superb performance of European products.
